Elena Smirnova is International Branding and Recruitment Coordinator at Howest University of Applied Science in Belgium. Originally from Belarus, she came to Belgium to obtain her Master’s degree in Cultural Studies and knows from personal experience what Belgium has to offer for international students. At Howest Elena started at the Bachelor programme of Digitals Arts and Entertainment and moved on to coordinate marketing, recruitment and admissions for the growing number of English-taught programmes at Howest. The challenge of attracting foreign students to the less known/popular region of West-Flanders in Belgium makes her job even more interesting, since it requires creativity and boldness. Elena loves travelling, and encompasses internationalization at home by bringing up a bilingual daughter.
